THE EVALUATION
The evaluation of maritime spatial planning processes, where little experience exists to date

Approach for the case studies

Both case studies organise practical planning exercises focusing on selected cross-border topics including shipping traffic, energy production, fishing and environment involving stakeholders from project countries.

Also, pre-defined “hot spot” areas and topics of special concern are refined and looked at in more detail.

Supporting the pan-Baltic MSP process

Lessons learned and recommendations derived from the two case study areas will feed into the ongoing work of the HELCOM-VASAB MSP Working Group, to be made available to the BSR more generally and to inform national and transnational MSP.

Cooperation and integration of results of other MSP projects

The project is build on the results generated by former projects:

  • Plan Bothnia (2010-2012)
  • BaltSeaPlan (2009-2012)
  • PartiSEApate (2012 -2014)

Parallel projects:

  • BaltSpace (2015-2017)
  • BalticLINes (2016 – 2019)

The project is contributing to an active exchange between MSP practitioners not only within the Baltic Sea Region but also beyond, and contributing to a process of knowledge brokering between research and MSP practice.
